This auction is for a vintage House of Webster Ceramics Souvenir of Eastland Texas "Old Rip" Texas Horned Toad Figurine with Original Brochure. Here is a short version of the brochure, Late 1890s a town built a building and placed a time capsule in one of the walls. Someone added a horned lizard, commonly known as a horned toad or horny toad, which went into hibernation to be woken up in 1928, when the building was being renovated. Named Old Rip, after Rip van Winkle, the toad became an instant celebrity, even touring the country! He died a few months later. They sold replicas of the lizard in the town to celebrate the toad! Old Rip measures 2” tall by 4 1/2” long by 3” wide. He is in excellent condition. We love rare and odd items, please bookmark us as a favorite seller. We are always happy to combine ship.
